Steve, that reminds me of a film called "there will be blood".  I loved that movie.  Paul, i think not so much.  Paul are you listening...................? :-)

Only joking Paul.  But im not sure if Steve is joking.  He is very serious about his reel to reel.

Yes start building the eq circuit version.

Then we will really hear what thats on the tape.

Its going to be as big a jump as we are hearing going from cd to r2r right now.

Its just playing around and adding final flavour at the moment.

Going straight from the heads will be another universe.

Paul, you know you want to....... :-)

Well,  I am listening to Pauls latest tube (tape output) preamp (loaded with Steves goodies),  it makes a very noticeable improvement.
(shown here-click)

The MTR10 is an awesome sounding machine in stock form.   But it is transformed with this output stage to another level,  it's more than just flavouring the sound to taste,  it's much more natural and real in delivery.

I'm very tempted to order one.   But I know that it isnt the end,  I'll always want that output stage with built in IEC eq,  and tapping into the output of the heads - bypassing all the other electronics.    We need to 'go there' guys.

It's all about the music,, not the equipment.

They are great looking machines for sure!

WRT tapping from the source (heads) - that's what I've been suggesting all along Oz - so bugger it I'll do it myself.

I'm currently building up a mic pre for pro applications (as you know) and this is basically a very high gain mic pre with some bells and whistles (EQ)
that has the right IP circuitry to suit tape heads.
