Title: Internet Radio stations
Post by: ozmillsy on March 05, 2014, 08:49:07 PM
For those who listen to internet radio stations from around the world, share with us your favourite stations in this thread.

I listen to internet radio as background music on my communal loungeroom system, which has a network connected squeezebox.   I wouldnt burn up my favourite tubeys (on my main rig) listening to internet radio,  but on my family audio system the sound quality is quite reasonable, all things considered.

I've been going through a reggae funk for about a year or so.  1 of my favourite stations to run in the background is reggae141

I absolutely love internet radio. I think it's the best thing ever. Was actually one of the reasons for progressing with computer audio as source, so internet radio streams would sound better too. :)

being streamed as a compressed format, I assumed it would never be of interest to any of you guys?

Anyways, smooth jazz  is one on my fav list: http://www.sky.fm/smoothjazz247 (http://www.sky.fm/smoothjazz247)

Edit: whoops sorry, put in wrong wrong channel info :)

For the way I listen to it (non critical) streamed mp3 is ok.   It's a great way to tap into all kinds of music, that we'd never get to hear otherwise.   The squeezebox does it so well too,  my wife can easily browse via the SB iphone app, and listen to internet radio on our family audio system (without the need to try and train her on using a pc for radio :) ).

Another favourite, SBS chill.

for all those who missed it - like me - simply because it was not broadcasted in Europe during the 1965s-1995s the radio station which plays directly out of the vault of the Grateful Dead (and other things of course):

My latest favourite internet radio station:  Dubside Radio (France)
http://tunein.com/radio/Dubside-Radio-s129624/ (http://tunein.com/radio/Dubside-Radio-s129624/)

Here's an example of a track I found on Dubside (Shazam gave me the info, and I found the track on youtube),  would never have come across it without internet radio.

Brooding bass,  downtempo beat,  laid back female vocal,  dreamy electronics,  under-stated layers that blend.      The track is kinda wasted on headphones,  really needs a system with genuine bottom end to really 'get it'.

Yes, it's an acquired taste.   Once tuned in to this kind of genre,  it's very addictive.     So much out there to explore.
