Some of my interesting high end audio caps .
These are ultra high end Toichi capacitors from Japan .
They are a non inductive copper foil polypropylene .
Unfortunately only sold in Japan . I havent tried them yet .
They come in 0 .1 , 0.2 , and 0.5uf .
Could they be better than V caps or even on par .
I do actually prefer polypropylene to teflon , so should be interesting.

This one is from the same company .
Its a high end silver mica specially produced for audio . Very expensive .
-
These are a Vitamin Q replica by Delritmo . chicklet I think they call them .
They are a oiled paper cap .
-
These are a 0.1 50v Nobel polystyrene film and foil . These would be good around a TDA1541 I reckon.
Note the large size for the capacitance . Nearly all the best audio caps are bigger .
Polystyrene caps are great for high frequency work , but not made any more .
-
These are a .056 1500v Auricap .
They are huge . Very good for high voltage work .
I will consider selling some of these if anyone is interested.

The big blue caps on the CD94 Mk 2 dac board .They are Roederstein 0.13 uf
Polypropylene film foil with copper leads .Foils are better than metallised film for this application.
It is very tight , but should get the rest in.
The ones installed are awesome . ;)
If only Marantz knew how much they lost from those white polyester caps .

Ian,
Nice collection there! WRT polystyrene, they are still available and I use them often for guitar amp tone controls.
Very smooth sounding - sometimes too smooth (for a gtr amp).
One thing I have noticed is that a lot of the modern ones have steel leads :(
I wish there were more copper / low voltage caps made these days. Many audio applications.
cheers
Terry

Tasty tasty stuff, I have a huge impulse to get some, but then I will be back in the cycle. Show us more of these gems.

Hi Guys .
I believe these are copper foil from Taitsu ,but only have two.At first they appear to be some sort of electrolytic ,but are not .They have identical markings to some smaller copper foils I have from the same company .They are heavy which also gives a hint to them being copper . These will be auditioned in due course .

Hi Terry ,there are plenty of polystyrene caps about but I have read that the film manufacturers have ceased making it some time back ,and that a couple of companies do have a stock of film and possibly manufacture for specific orders .But as far as I am aware most of the polystyrene caps available today are NOS .
Steel leads are one of my pet hates . Even the newer Vishay Roederstein 1837 have steel leads along with many other cap manufacturers .They don't even state it in the data sheets :( . Panasonic HFQ ,FC ,steel also .
One of the reasons to search out NOS caps is that many of the new ones are using copper clad steel ,unless you go for specific audio caps which usually use ofc copper .
After using nice copper caps I cant understand why manufacturers haven't filled this niche in the lower end of the market with lower voltage caps .There are a number of copper film caps but most are very expensive boutique caps .Too small I guess .Or maybe the light hasn't come on to the potential .
These are Japanese copper foil polypropylene 0.01 ,and really beautiful sounding .I would get a hundred if I could .
They were probably a small run custom order as the only markings are written on with permanent marker .

These little unassuming caps are Soshin Silver mica .
They are specially made for audio to a very high standard and not your typical mica cap which are usually quite cheap . These go for big dollars in Japan ,and have an extremely high reputation .We will see .The difficult thing about these caps ,is that there are other cheaper caps in the Soshin range look almost identical . Its always difficult to get information on Japanese capacitors .
This is a 120pf that will get tried in the DEM position on the TDA1541a one day .
-
Hey Steve here is the polypropylene version of the caps in your Leak . Yours are polystyrene .
-
I picked up a few of these too . I have never tried the Mundorfs silver gold .These are non oil .The oil ones are said to be a little more refined ,but this should give me an idea of the signature .
-
I don't have any of these ,but out of interest they are a Japanese T-cap "Vitamin Q" replica for people who need to replace caps in their vintage tube gear but keep the same sound .
-
One thing is for sure, we should start making damn copper caps. In nearly every case they just sound better.
The sad part of the equation is that the -only- real application for copper caps is audio.... small return on investment.
:( :(

Here is a Taitsu copper Polystyrene .

Lovely copper

These are ok too ;D

If you need some electrolytics .Elnas top shelf with gold terminals .

Yes Craig Simon was kind enough to give it back!
Just sorting out a few issues with i2s now. Hopefully should have up and running by the weekend.
The love is back :)
