Post by: rab on October 08, 2012, 10:45:32 PM
Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this, but i was curious about this eBay listing of a modified Marantz with external valve rectified power supply and valve output stage... who is "DBA"?

:) As the player is being advertised for $2000 dollars or thereabouts, suggesting 300 bucks is like a wet kipper in the face............. :o :o
The mods would have cost a fair bit, the trouble with all this buying second hand is there is no warrenty and possibly no circuit diagrammes so repairs or servicing could be probmatical which all need to be factored into the price.  Even coming in at 50% of the asking price will get you a short reply to  fffff off more than likely.  Just because it has a valve output stage does not automatically make it a superb silver disk spinner.  Try to hear it first and then and only then decide if you want to part with fairly serious money for it.

Sorry, i should have stated that i have no interest in buying this, i just thought someone might know who had done the mods and what the resulting sound was like. "Made in Australia" sticker on the rear chassis plate.
