UHA-HQ Series Tape Decks

I stumbled across this purely by chance tonight. Seems this US company is refurbishing/rebuilding Tascam decks that were made up until 2002.

http://www.unitedhomeproducts.com/reel_to_reel_hq_tape_decks.htm

Seems the output is solid state: http://www.unitedhomeproducts.com/how_to_use_your_reel_to_reel.htm

I gather from the web site that they have had some coverage in the Absolute Sound, but I had never heard of them myself...
Jonathan Valin: "I have never heard rock and roll reproduced more powerfully and realistically in my home or at a show in my entire life."

.. from TAS March 2012 - Issue 221 Editors Choice Awards 2012:
"The one-off-master of Bill Evans may well have been the best reproduction I’ve ever heard, anywhere, of anything. It was breathtaking."

EDIT: article here: http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/united-home-audios-new-tape-deck-and-next-gen-reel-to-reel-tapes/

The BR20 Tascam was last of the tascam decks. Cause by this stage late in the game everything had been compromised and made cheap. The UHA decks (Tarted up Tascam BR20's) by all standards are supposed to be very very good but for 22K USD for a deck that originally cost way less than 5K they would bloody want to be good  :o
I cant stress enough to you guys, go and find a full professional console machine like an studer A80, Otari MTR, Ampex ATR, MCI, Telefunken M15 or similar. They are not expensive as you get a machine that originally cost as much as a good car or even a modest house at a fraction of the original price. There are good ones out there. Do your research, ask questions, do what ever you have to do. Give the reviews a miss, they are full of sh!t and sponsored by the kockheads that have ruined nearly everything on the market today.
