Enterprise Gets New Enclosure
« on: February 08, 2014, 05:06:32 PM »
Hi All,

The inimitable Enterprise DAC needs to grow up, become kiddy safe etc.

So,  as Jethro Bodeen would say -  I've been Whittling me an enclosure.

cheers

Dovetail looks better, and a copper plated top. No solid gold top.

I agree, copper plate will look great. I usually get copper plates from this place in Marrickville: https://www.aemetal.com.au/Webstore/c-147-bshco0b0000.aspx

No vested interest, just a satisfied customer  :)

Now....where can we get a nice wooded cabinet with dovetail joints?

Yeah I thought about dovetail and was initially going that way but IMO it doesn't look as clean.

Did an image search of various valve amps etc and that confirmed my choice.

But as they say YMMV or - each to his own :)

What's underneath is ultimately more important.

WRT top plate, yes copper looks really perty for sure!   However Al machines much better, I might try copper on the next one :)

I don't think it will have any sonic effect TBH.

WRT dovetail joints, plenty people around can do them including myself however they are a bit of a PITA and I think this looks cleaner.

On something like a guitar amp head, it's mandatory dovetail joints because they just need the strength.

Interestingly does copper sound better, well I think it does, but not necessarily for the reasons most people think, but because you need to earth everything through it.

WRT AL versus Cu  top plate.

It depesnds on the earthing scheme. You don't necessarily want to earth everything to one copper plate together with the mains safety ground
can end up causing earth loop / noise.
