I went to 6sn7 Mario, on the lookout for some nice red base 6sl7.

Paul said it would be fine to use the 6sn7 it would just lower the gain.

Yeah, I get some more travel from the volume pot, those mullards a bit too expensive haha. I managed to get two pairs of these red bases for 140 posted :D

Just saw this thread over at DIYA.

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/tubes-valves/170178-odd-crazy-output-transformer-design-2.html#post2395485

The OP transformers were made by Alkay Transformers over 25 years ago when I working there.
The original owner Lothar Keidel, was a German and a transformer design genius.

Total of 15 sections vertically 'Pi' wound for greater bandwidth and super tight P to S coupling.

The amps were KT88 push pull / class A / no global FB.

cheers

Terry

That is an interesting looking output tranny Terry!

One of the links you posted points to another link which I breifly read through and thought it was really interesting and educational.

http://www.lenardaudio.com/education/14_valve_amps.html

It talks about different aspects in the build and design of valve amps.  Worth a gander !

lenardaudio some great reading and also a lot of shiezer!

Yeah - it's a mixed bag for sure.

The purely technical explanations of power supplies, amps etc with schematics
are great and recommended reading.

Some of the other stuff is a bit of a worry.

Since i have tuyens amp in my possesion i thought i could play with it,i have found feedback resistors and a little cap to play with.
changed the value and also tried a different cap silver mica, the silver mica is sh!t does not work with this amp

i have some resistors coming from england to play with,so much can be done with just a few changes of parts who needs to change amps?
I could no belive the difference in sound just a little cap made in the feedback circuit wow wow.tuyen stop me playing with your amp
