interconnect lengths
« on: May 25, 2014, 08:25:58 PM »
Have any of you guys tested different length interconnects and found a particular length sounds best to you?

IE. As it is common belief that every component in the system adds a certain flavor to the sound,  so say if we like the sound of this particular pair of interconnects,  if we use an extra long pair of them, would it then impart a  more of that flavor into the system?     A shorter length would upset the balance as well?

Topic brought up when had an audio friend advise me prefers best the sound from the 2m pair of interconnects over the 0.75m and 3m cables.   All same type (Accuphase ASL).

Interesting question, someone told me something similar about Nordost cables. Keen for someone to do the tests and report back.

If the cables are identical in every single way except for length,  (big IF ??),   then the variable in play is resistance (not sure of other variables).   The resistance does increase with length, which is why people generally recommend shorter cables where possible.

There is a table in this AWG wiki page,  that gives you the resistance per foot,  for different gauge wire.

Also,  just because the cables are identical model/brand,   don't assume everything is identical.   The terminations between cables could be of different quality (among other variables).

It's all about the music,, not the equipment.
