R2R adventures
« on: November 08, 2014, 09:04:51 AM »
Currently en route to S.A. to collect an old vintage tape machine, that is in need of some TLC.

Attempting the cannonball run, nearly 3000k's in 2 days, flying solo.

The things I do for audio.   :-X

Ohhhh man, what a trek !   I am totally wrecked.    Wont do that again in a hurry.   :-\

The machine has been dropped off,  to be health checked/fixed.

Desperately needed a relaxer........

Yes,  I have bought back an old A80, a piece of history,  #209.

Will post a pic, after it has had some love, and is in it's new home.  Will be a few weeks at least.

* 2 full days driving (dawn to dusk and beyond)
* 2 nights sleeping in the back of the car
* 1 night cuddling an A80, because there was no room
* 3000 k's covered
* 0 speeding tickets (I hope!!! I only have 2 points free)
* 0 space to accomodate new machine in current room
* 1 pleased hifi user, hoping for no major repair dramas. [Fingers crossed]
* 1 bottle of red disappearing clickly

Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.

* 30 cd's played (used the trip as catchup time)
* 2 ringing ears (played the car stereo too loud [doh])
* 1 crook back (seized up this morning  :'( )
* 2000 posts clicked over on this forum, while posting in this thread.

I gave Elvis Costello a good hard run this trip.  I never really had the time to invest in him, always figured he was an acquired taste, that needed some time to take it in.

Well, I gave him his fair share of airtime this trip.   Yeah, nah, not my thing.   Not sure what DK see's in him to be honest, cant be the music. Haha. ;) [jk]

Main thing is your home safe Andrew!

I remember driving a similar stint many years ago, never seen so many 'roos in my life crossing the Hay Plains through the night.  :o :o

yeah, there was loads and loads of dead roo's along the side of the road.   And I did have 1 close call just outside of west wyalong, early in the morning I didnt see another car for at least 10mins, I came over a rise and there was a big roo sitting right in the middle of the road doing FA. Had to apply the anchors and swerve around it (ie: swerve onto the wrong side of the road).  Lucky I saw it, and lucky there were no other cars around.

It was a big thing to attempt such a trip, alone, and in that limited amount of time. It's good to make it back safely, for sure.
