Tesla E83CC Frame Grid Tubes
« on: August 18, 2015, 07:34:06 PM »
Does anyone have any experience with Tesla (not JJ) E83CC frame grid tubes.  Are they as good sounding as the Mullard and Amperex 12AX7 tubes.

Pete I have no idea, but there is plenty of great vintage b grade 12ax7 - 5751 that may be as good. It just comes down to price vs performance.

Steve,  Have a read at http://www.tubemaze.info/tesla-e83cc-gold-pins/  Much praise for this tube as long as it is not the JJ variant.

I usually find with these types of reviews they have never really had the great stuff, bottom line is they are often comparing ordinary against their previous junk valves on poor systems. If a system is poorly tuned, it is open to a valve with a niche performance characteristic, and it seems to work well and outperform the great tubes, but only on there own system. Experience has taught me to  take most of these opinions with grain of salt. I have found in general if a tube sells for outrages money, it's a very good indication it is a good sounding valve.
