New Wadia Transport w Zenclock Reclock
« on: August 10, 2016, 01:42:29 PM »
Hi All,

WRT some of the discussion about modding, clocks etc here is latest Wadia / Zenclock / Reclocker for Rob.

I've added some pics of before / after reclocking to show what's going on.

Please note that I am not discouraging other transport mods, I have done a few on this one.

Pics of the transport with clock and reclocker right at OP feeding both BNC and RJ45.

OK - here are some pics of what the reclocking actually does.

The yellow traces are from SAA7210 chip the blue are after reclocking.

Note that the reclocking not only cleanes the wave form up but most importantly it realignes it with the clock. So any timing
damage added by the SAA7210 chip is reduced dramatically.

A few things to note:

Extensive noise especially on Wordclock, it actually has the bitclock superimposed on the top horizontal trace.

Leading edges on reclocked signals are much cleaner and faster

I tried all sorts of PS and cap mods with Oscons etc and although they made some small differences they didn't do much
compared to the massive cleanup of the reclocker.

OK further to above there are a few other tweaks.

I noticed that there are some really prominent resonances around that area where clock is mounted.

Since these clocks have a very large can it is even worse. So on this Wadia and clock there is extensive use of
lead to damp these resonances. You can see it on clock can and there is also a large sheet on behind the side
wall that is hidden from view.

Now - the last tweak amongst many is that the actual I2S signal level can be tweaked with a small trimpot
to lower the levels going into TDA1541.

There has been much discussion on the net WRT the TDA1541 being sensitive to standard 5V I2S levels, much lower being better.

I have designed a special adjustment trimmer which acts on all of the 3 separate OP reclockers to allow adjustment from >4V
to almost 2V.

This transport is being sent to Qld (Mr CC) where it will be fine tuned to it's partner KillerDAC.

cheers all

Hey Mario,

Not as much as you might think.  The clock is very much same as yours but I was always going to do a reclocker.

It seemed everyone was putting so much effort into transport mods and I could see that after the clock itself
the next main target was the SAA7210 chip generating I2S signal - messing things up.

I'll be listening to this one next day or so through Enterprise DAC.

cheers
