Western Electric 300Bs 2019 new production
stevenvalve:
I need some new production Western Electric 300Bs 2019 to run my Rullit Field coil Aero8s, but i read this post on another forum, i do not know the truth, but its a worry.
The Western Electric company that manufactured the mid century NOS tubes that everyone seeks out and lusts for went out of business in 1996 when AT&T spun off it's manufacturing arm to Lucent Technologies which sold off all kinds of divisions and itself was eventually bought out by a French firm called Avaya and then again by Nokia.
The company that now calls itself Western Electric is only related to the original firm in that they bought out some of their trademarks and intellectual property.
They are making copies of the 300B, just like everyone else that sells them. I can't say that they will be better or worse that any other new production 300Bs on the market today, But don't think that they will be the same as the old NOS tubes. Just because it says Western Electric on the tube it does no guarantee that they will be anything like the old stock. The name basically means nothing other than a marketing ploy. The tubes will have to stand on their own two feet. That's not to say that they won't sound good, just that they won't sound good, simply that the name on the box has nothing to do with how they end up sounding.

I finally scored a mint unused matched pair of Western Electric 300Bs in the wooden box from the old reissue dated 2006. They have the number engraved length-ways down the base, if you find some 300B reissues that do not, they are rejects from the factory that did not meet spec, often sold cheaper as singles or pairs, so make sure they have the codes on the base. The current 2019 reissue 300Bs are risky because its unlikely there will be any of the original people to draw on, unlike the 2004 reissue program. The picture here is showing the numbers is from the net. My pair sound superb.

Having heard the western electrics them against the PSVANE the results were ugly. The Psvane sounded okay, a tad polite, no huge flaws. The western electric absolutely trounced them. Better bass, mids and highs, more natural, more extended, more natural sounding. The western electrics delivered more of everything without sounding artificial, the best modern valve I have heard. 9.9 Western electric, Psvane 5.5.
Yes the western electric cost a lot more, they deliver in spades. They are worth the investment. :o :o :o :o :o

interesting. I paid an eye-watering amount for a pair of Takatsuki 300Bs a couple of years back (Elrog 300Bs didn't work in the amp). Have you by any chance compared them to the WEs? (... and do i want to know? Maybe not!)
