The VDRS transport comes in so many flavours and some of them are just plain hype and plastic beneath covers. My Esoteric is supposed to have an expensive version of this transport and upon close inspection does not appear to be anything to write home about. It's the marketing boys at play again having one good transport and then playing off the good reputation with the VRDS logo to peddle lower priced units increasing their bottom line.
Bit like early CD players in a way, they were built to a performace spec in the begining and then marketing and profit lines dictated cheaper and cheaper implememtations to maximise the bottom line. All those plastic chassis for mass consumption behind a high tech faceplate, makes me shudder even thinking of them.
Has anyone looked at the transport in that version? Is it a good one? Guess its SPDIF and optical output too, maybe even XLR. It would be good to be able to add to the list of recommend transports for forum addicts and music lovers.
