Some useful information on R2R
« on: October 31, 2012, 12:21:02 PM »
Hi guys

I'm keen on heading down the R2R path over the coming year  ;D

I came across this review which summarises things nicely http://positive-feedback.com/Issue46/tape_project.htm. Hope it is useful. I would be keen to go down the moded Technics or Otari, Bottlehead amp route. Anyone else likely to head down this path?

Cheers, Andy

That's a good article, cheers.
It's all about the music,, not the equipment.

And Bottlehead's R2R mods and tube electronics http://www.bottlehead.com/store.php?crn=223

The Eros tape head preamp looks very nice...might be a great performer with some Duelund's and Shinkoh's  8)

A local friend (Martin S) has a couple of R2R units for anyone who ends up buying a few recordings and wants to listen to them.  Just let me know and we can organize to head down when suits.

Although me personally, won't bother heading down R2R path.   Have more then enough classical on vinyl lp records and practically all new music releases I've been digging are only available on digital download format (CDs are dead for me in that regard).

Have a look at Chicago Axona Seminar (45 minutes) on Rediscovering R2R.  It is the third video down the page.  Link at:

Yeah picked it no problems after the first couple of bars. Tape is king.
Not sure I liked his fiddled with final version that much. I think it
started to sound artificial and closer to the digital version.
